Journalists worldwide have the opportunity to apply for a fully-funded fellowship to attend the International Civil Society Week (ICSW) in Bangkok, Thailand, from November 1–5, 2025. The fellowship is a collaborative effort between the global civil society alliance CIVICUS and the Asia Democracy Network (ADN), designed to support journalists reporting on vital issues of civic space and human rights.
The program, celebrating citizen action and exploring innovative approaches to democracy and inclusion, is set against a backdrop of increasing constraints on civic freedoms globally. The ICSW will serve as a platform for thousands of activists, organizations, and allies to convene for a series of workshops, conferences, trainings, and cultural exchanges. Selected fellows will gain unique access to these events, offering a chance to meet and interview civil society leaders from around the world.
The fellowship features two categories to accommodate different experience levels:
- Journalist Fellowship: For experienced journalists of any age with a strong interest and portfolio focusing on civic space and human rights.
- Young Journalist Fellowship: Aimed at journalists under 30, including citizen journalists and digital media creators who engage with rights issues.
Selected fellows will receive a fully-funded package, which includes travel and accommodation for the duration of the event. In exchange, fellows are expected to produce and publish at least two stories in any format—including written articles, videos, or multimedia content—related to the ICSW and civic freedoms based on their experience in Bangkok.
With the application deadline set for September 14, 2025, interested journalists are encouraged to apply, especially those from Global Majority countries. Notification of selected fellows will be made by early October 2025. This is an exceptional opportunity for journalists to report from the forefront of global civil society, offering a chance to amplify critical stories and connect with an international network of changemakers.
