Exam pattern and syllabus
- Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
- Sections: The exam has three sections:
- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR)
- Quantitative Aptitude (QA)
- Total Questions: 68 questions, including both Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Type in the Answer (TITA) questions.
- Duration: 120 minutes total, with 40 minutes allotted to each section.
- Marking Scheme: +3 marks for each correct answer and -1 mark for each incorrect MCQ. There is no negative marking for TITA questions.
Expected cut-off percentiles for top IIMs
Based on previous years’ trends, the expected cut-off percentiles for the general category for admission to top IIMs are:
- Top IIMs (Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta): 99+ percentile
- Tier-2 IIMs (Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode): 91–99.5 percentile
- Newer IIMs (Amritsar, Nagpur, Trichy): 95+ percentile
How to apply for CAT 2025
To register for the exam, follow these steps:
- Visit the official CAT website: iimcat.ac.in.
- Click on the “New Candidate Registration” link to create an account.
- Use the generated login credentials to fill out the application form with personal and academic details.
- Upload the required documents, such as a passport-size photo and a scanned signature.
- Select your preferred IIM programs and up to five test cities.
- Pay the registration fee online and submit your application.
